Assuming that it’s possible to make a simulation as complex as our observable universe, it’s highly likely that we are living in such a simulation.

  • The most famous argument for this is Bostrom's simulation hypothesis.

    • It's unclear to me that the ancestor simulation part of his argument is necessary.

  • It's not obvious that there's any real important difference between simulation and reality for the inhabitants of it. Possibly the difference is just whether or not there's someone who started (and could possibly stop) the simulation. The simulation hypothesis/argument is one of the more intriguing arguments I've heard for there being a creator.
