To promote knowledge work productivity, it is better for an organization to try to avoid wasting time and effort than to encourage people to work longer hours.
This view doesn't say anything about the morality of particular points on the work-life-balance spectrum, or even about what individual workers should do with their own goals in mind (although both should be considered somewhere). It is only talking about the effects on productivity from the organizational perspective.
